Yes, You Can Get Lash Extensions With Sensitive Eyes
Sensitive eyes, allergies, and contact lens wearers can absolutely have lash extensions — with the right preparation and precautions. I specialise in working with sensitive clients, and we'll make your appointment as comfortable as possible.
Before Your Appointment
Tell me about your sensitivity
When you book, mention:
- What specific sensitivities you have (pollen, dust, fragrance, chemicals)
- Any diagnosed eye conditions (dry eye syndrome, rosacea, dermatitis)
- History of reactions to adhesives or cosmetics
- Current medications or eye drops you use
Remove contact lenses
Contact lenses can irritate sensitive eyes during a 2-3 hour appointment. Bring your case and solution — you can put them back in after.
Request a patch test
If you're worried about reactions, I can perform a patch test 24-48 hours before your full appointment. A small amount of adhesive is applied to a hidden area to check for sensitivity.
Consider low-fume adhesive
If glue fumes are your concern, I can use a low-fume adhesive option. Let me know when booking.
During Your Appointment
Ventilation
My studio is well-ventilated to minimise glue fumes. If you'd like extra airflow, let me know.
Extra under-eye protection
I use protective under-eye pads that create a barrier between your sensitive skin and any glue or fumes.
Communication
If you feel itchy, uncomfortable, or notice any irritation during application, tell me immediately. We can pause and adjust.
Breaks if needed
Lying with eyes closed for 2-3 hours can be uncomfortable for sensitive eyes. We can take breaks if you need to blink or rest your eyes.
Aftercare for Sensitive Eyes
- Avoid irritants: Skip makeup on or near the lash line for at least a few days post-appointment.
- Use gentle cleansers: Oil-free, fragrance-free cleansers designed for sensitive skin.
- Skip harsh products: Avoid retinoids, acids, or vitamin C serums near the eyes for a week.
- Soothe with cool compresses: A cool (not cold) compress over closed eyes reduces irritation.
- Use preservative-free eye drops: If dryness is an issue, use lubricating drops specifically for sensitive eyes.
- Avoid rubbing: Extra important for sensitive eyes — friction can trigger irritation.
If Irritation Occurs
Mild redness or slight itching for a few hours after appointment is sometimes normal. However, if you experience:
- Persistent itching or burning
- Significant swelling or redness
- Watery or oozing eyes
- Any vision changes
Stop and contact me immediately. In severe cases, see a doctor.
Long-Term Sensitive Eye Care
- Regular infills help: Consistent 2-3 week infills mean less irritation from loose lashes rubbing your eyes.
- Quality matters: Professional extensions with proper application cause less irritation than low-quality alternatives.
- Know your triggers: Track what causes reactions so we can avoid those products or techniques in future.
Your Comfort Is My Priority. Sensitive eyes won't stop you from having beautiful lash extensions. Let's work together to make your experience smooth and irritation-free.
