Yes, You Can Get Lash Extensions While Pregnant

Pregnancy doesn't mean giving up lash extensions! Many expectant mums enjoy lash extensions throughout their pregnancy. However, there are some pregnancy-specific considerations to keep in mind for your comfort and safety.

Safety Considerations

  • Adhesive fumes: Lash extension glue releases fumes during curing, which may be more noticeable to pregnant clients. Well-ventilated studios minimise this.
  • Hormonal changes: Pregnancy hormones can affect skin sensitivity, eye dryness, and adhesive retention.
  • Emotional sensitivity: Some pregnant clients are more emotionally sensitive during appointments — and that's completely normal.

Before Your Appointment

  • Tell me you're pregnant: This helps me take extra precautions and adjust the appointment if needed.
  • Consult your doctor: While generally safe, it's good to get medical clearance, especially if you have complications.
  • Plan timing: Many pregnant clients prefer early pregnancy or second trimester (less nausea and easier to recline comfortably).
  • Request ventilation: Let me know if you're extra sensitive to fumes so I can ensure excellent airflow.

During the Appointment

  • Comfort first: I'll ensure the treatment bed is comfortable (extra pillows, recline angle adjusted).
  • Breaks if needed: If you feel uncomfortable, we can pause. Your wellbeing comes first.
  • Shorter duration: We may extend the appointment slightly so you can shift positions occasionally without rushing.
  • Open communication: Tell me if you feel lightheaded, nauseous, or uncomfortable at any point.

Hormonal Changes & Retention

Pregnancy hormones can affect lash retention and natural lash growth:

  • Thicker, fuller natural lashes: Many pregnant clients notice their natural lashes become thicker — amazing for extensions!
  • Hormonal sensitivity: Some clients experience slightly reduced adhesive retention due to hormonal changes.
  • Aftercare is key: Stick to all aftercare rules to maximise retention, especially during pregnancy.

Pregnancy-Specific Tips

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and after your appointment.
  • Eat a light snack beforehand: Low blood sugar can make nausea worse.
  • Wear comfortable clothing: You don't want anything tight during a 2-3 hour appointment.
  • Bring support: If you'd like someone with you during the appointment, that's fine.
  • Plan infill timing: Book infills knowing your due date so you're not stressed about appointments near labour.

After You Give Birth

  • Expect changes: Hormonal shifts after birth can affect retention again.
  • Postpartum self-care: Some new mums love lash extensions because they look polished without makeup on minimal sleep!
  • Timeline for infills: Book infills around your recovery schedule and new baby routine.
